Firearms and Self-Defense: Expert Insights from Trigger Talk Tuesday - March 18th, 2025
Trigger Talk Tuesday Summary
The latest episode of Trigger Talk Tuesday, hosted by Clint Gage and aired on WPM and WCST, was a lively and informative conversation featuring Ritchie from Green Monstah Firearms and Randy and Lynn from Shadow Hawk Defense. The show, sponsored by Green Monstah Firearms, centered around firearms maintenance, upcoming events, training opportunities, and community engagement, all with a light, humorous tone and a clear focus on safety and education.
The episode kicked off with some light Saint Patrick’s Day banter, with Randy humorously recounting a shooting-from-a-vehicle class where green simunition rounds left their mark. Clint, meanwhile, helped his family set up a greenhouse—a “green” activity, if not exactly festive.
A major topic was Green Monstah’s spring cleaning promotion: a drawing for a free firearm cleaning service. Ritchie emphasized how crucial it is to regularly clean firearms—not just for aesthetic reasons, but to ensure proper functioning. The frequency of cleaning depends on firearm type, usage, and the manufacturer. For instance, Glock pistols are often noted for their reliability even with minimal cleaning, whereas competition firearms like those from Atlas Gunworks require meticulous maintenance, including their magazines.
Ritchie explained that Green Monstah offers firearm cleaning at a flat rate of $40, typically with same-day turnaround. The spring giveaway aims to remind gun owners that now is the perfect time to service their firearms before hunting season or upcoming training events.
Another exciting announcement was Green Monstah’s involvement with the Middleway Volunteer Fire Company’s Second Annual Sportsman’s Bash, happening on September 7. This fundraiser offers attendees a chance to win high-end firearms, cash prizes, and even a four-wheeler—all for a $40 ticket that includes food and unlimited beer. Additional “pull tab” raffles will take place during the event with even more firearms up for grabs, including a secret donated firearm with sentimental value to the community.
Ritchie expressed pride in supporting the Middleway Fire Company, which provides essential services and community events like Easter egg hunts, trunk-or-treats, and breakfast with Santa. He emphasized that the bash is not just fun but also an opportunity to give back to a volunteer-based department that does so much for local families.
In the final segment, the conversation shifted toward firearms education and training, with Randy and Lynn detailing upcoming courses at Shadow Hawk Defense. A Red Dot Sight Fundamentals course was set for the following day. Randy discussed how red dots are becoming increasingly popular, particularly among law enforcement, due to their speed and simplicity compared to traditional iron sights. However, he cautioned that shooters should still learn to use iron sights in case of optic failure.
The course is designed for beginners, covering how to acquire the red dot, manage recoil, and transition between targets. Lynn noted the importance of offering weekday classes to accommodate those who can’t attend weekend sessions.
Later in the week, Shadow Hawk will also be hosting a Concealed Carry 1 class, geared toward entry-level shooters looking to get their concealed carry permit and build solid fundamentals.
