Firearms and Self-Defense: Expert Insights from Trigger Talk Tuesday - Octover 21st, 2025
This week’s Trigger Talk Tuesday on WEPM/WCST, presented by Green Monstah Firearms, featured Richie and John from Green Monstah along with Randy and Lynn from Shadowhawk Defense. The discussion opened with a lighthearted exchange before diving into a key topic: 3D printing and firearms.
John explained that while 3D printing is becoming more accessible, most common materials are not durable enough to safely handle the pressures of live ammunition. Improperly printed firearms can lead to catastrophic failures and serious injuries. He emphasized that anyone considering such projects must understand ATF regulations regarding firearm manufacturing. Accessories, like holsters or gear, can be safely 3D printed if made from the right high-strength polymers.
Lynn from Shadowhawk added that the real issue isn’t the tool—it’s the intent. Law-abiding citizens follow rules, while those with bad intentions will find ways around them. The panel agreed that 3D printers, when used responsibly, have legitimate applications, but that safety and legality always come first. The group also discussed the importance of proper firearms training and cautioned against unreliable information from unqualified “YouTube experts.”
Upcoming Shadowhawk Defense classes were highlighted:
October 25 – CQB
October 26 – Red Dot
November 1 – Guns 101 (introductory course for beginners)
November 2 – Concealed Carry 101
November 8–9 – Two-day CQB and Room Clearing (Levels 1 & 2 using simunition)
They also announced a Women’s Self-Defense Course at Shadow Hawk Defense on November 15th (10 AM–12 PM), taught by Andrew from UMEC, designed for women of all backgrounds to learn effective, practical defense skills.
Finally, Lynn promoted upcoming shooting sports events:
October 25 – Steel Challenge Fundraiser benefiting Operation Underground Railroad, supporting efforts against child trafficking and abuse.
November 1 – Two-Gun Match
November 8 – USPSA Classifier Match, ideal for newcomers interested in practical shooting competition.
The episode closed by emphasizing community and learning within the shooting sports world—competition as a means of self-improvement and shared growth, not rivalry.
