Contrary to Hollywood portrayals, suppressors do not make firearms “silent.” Instead, they typically reduce sound by 30–40 decibels, which still requires ear protection at the range. The benefits, however, are significant: hunters disturb less wildlife and can make quicker follow-up shots, while homeowners can better protect their hearing and reduce trauma for family and pets if forced to defend themselves indoors.
